National Humanities Center Residential Fellowship

Description: Each year, the National Humanities Center welcomes up to 40 scholars from across the humanities and all over the world. During their time in residence, Fellows are given the freedom to work on their projects while benefiting from the exceptional services of the Center. In addition to scholars from all fields of the humanities, the Center accepts individuals from the natural and social sciences, the arts, the professions, and public life who are engaged in humanistic projects.

Award: The amounts awarded are individually determined, according to the needs of the Fellow and the Center’s ability to meet them. The Center seeks to provide half salary up to $65,000. Other grants or institutional support that Fellows will receive during their fellowship may also affect the amount of the Center’s stipend.

Eligibility: Applicants must have a doctorate or equivalent scholarly credentials. Mid-career and senior scholars are encouraged to apply. Emerging scholars with a strong record of peer-reviewed work may also apply. The Center does not support the revision of doctoral dissertations.

California Environmental Grassroots Fund

Description: The California Environmental Grassroots Fund supports small grassroots groups across California that are tackling tough environmental problems including toxic pollution, urban sprawl, sustainable agriculture, climate change, environmental degradation of our rivers and wild places, as well as, of our communities and our health. Guided by a board of community activists and veteran funders, the Fund’s mission is to bridge a significant gap between grassroots environmental groups and the traditional funding patterns of organized philanthropy by awarding small grants to small organizations that are underserved by most foundations’ funding strategies. Issues supported include but are not limited to environmental health & justice, land management & urban sprawl, habitat & wilderness protection, sustainable forestry, water resources, agriculture, sustainability, and pollution.

Award: Up to $5,000

Eligibility: Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria: project impact must be within California; organization must have annual income/expenses of $100k or less; and applicants may be a nonprofit, be fiscally sponsored by another nonprofit, or ask for fiscal sponsorship from the fund. Deadline: The Grassroots Fund has an application deadline every three months. Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on the deadline date of: Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1, and Nov. 1. If the deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday or official holiday, then submissions are due at 5pm on the next business day.

Franconia Fellowship Artist Residency

Description: The Franconia Fellowship supports mid-career artists with a stipend and residency. In celebration of the launch of Franconia Sculpture Park’s 4Ground: Midwest Land Art Biennial, Franconia is focusing 2022 curatorial initiatives and public programs on site-specific work that raises awareness of important land and water issues while celebrating the art and landscapes of the rural Midwest. In response to the Eurocentric art historical notion of land art rooted in man moving and controlling the earth, Franconia will be supporting work created with a feminist, indigenous perspective, drawing on the more than 10,000-year history of land art created by native peoples in the Upper Midwest. Franconia Sculpture Park is encouraging applicants with an interest in work rooted in the intersection of art and ecology, including but not limited to: performance; sound art; public interventions; site-specific and ephemeral installation; the rural and natural landscape; earthworks; collaborative works with nature; indigenous history and storytelling; and land and water rights.

Award: $5,000 stipend and a three-week to three-month residency during which Fellows are responsible for developing, producing, and installing their work.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 21+ years of age, showing a strong professional working history. Small collaborative groups of two may apply with one designated lead. Int’l artists may apply.

New Earth Foundation Grant

Description: New Earth Foundation seeks to fund innovative projects that enhance life on our planet and brighten the future, furthering peace. Smaller, newer 501(c)(3) organizations are the focus of grants given, so that the foundation’s gift can make a more significant contribution to the work of the recipient organization. NEF grants support a wide variety of projects in many fields of endeavor, including but not limited to environmental initiatives that are working to help eliminate pollution and to save the planet’s ecosystems, community efforts that create models of social sustainability, educational innovations that prepare youth to become the socially responsible leaders of the future, and strategies that offer economic improvement and opportunities. NEF particularly appreciates projects that are replicable so that excellent ideas and work can multiply and benefit many.

RJE Sprout Fund

Description: The RJE Sprout Fund was established in 2021 to support artists across the nation with direct funds in order to provide financial means to projects that will be completed within the next 12 months. All artists are encouraged to apply – formally trained, self-taught, and those whose creative work falls outside of traditional forms of art. Artists are also encouraged to apply for funds for projects that involve their communities such as art classes, therapy, outreach, and non-traditional projects.

The Hopper Prize

Description The Hopper Prize is a grant-making institution and digital archiving platform offering a series of individual artist grants on a bi-annual basis. The Hopper Prize was established to provide grants, visibility, and career enhancing validation to artists who demonstrate a serious commitment to their work.

Award: Twelve artists receive funding annually (six in spring, six in fall). Four artists receive $3500 (two in spring, two in fall); and eight artists receive $1,000 (four in spring, four in fall).

Eligibility: Open to all artists age 18 and older working in any media. There are no restrictions on genre, subject matter, or media.

Community-Focused Economic Mobility Grants

Description: The Bank of American Charitable Foundation works to develop strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations working to address issues fundamental to economic mobility and social progress in low- and moderate-income communities. The foundation welcomes proposals that address economic mobility in a community context, with a focus on affordable housing, small business, and neighborhood revitalization. Examples include housing development for vulnerable population through the construction or preservation of affordable single, multi-family, transitional, and supportive housing; sustainable development efforts creating healthy living environments through energy efficiency upgrades, retrofits, solar and other green building efforts; transit-oriented development efforts; community arts and cultural institutions that provide economic opportunity and contribute to the vitality and livability of communities; and environmental efforts through the preservation, creation or restoration of open space, parks, and community gardens. Description: The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is accepting proposals for its 2021 International Research Seed Funding. The goal of the seed funding is to assist talented researchers in developing projects/ideas to a level that would secure additional, more significant, funding—in conjunction with the CTBUH. Research proposals should relate to the tall building typology/urban habitat, but are open to any topic/discipline, including but not limited to: architecture, construction, energy issues, energy harvesting, environmental engineering, façades, financial & cost issues, fire & life safety, geotechnics, humanities, infrastructure, interiors, maintenance & cleaning, materials, MEP engineering, policy making, resource management, seismic design, social aspects, structural engineering, systems development, urban planning, vertical transportation, wind engineering, etc. The proposals should have the potential to improve tall buildings and cities from a wide perspective. NEH Digital Humanities Advancement Grants

Description: The Digital Humanities Advancement Grants program (DHAG) supports innovative, experimental, and/or computationally challenging digital projects at different stages of their lifecycles, from early start-up phases through implementation and sustainability. Experimentation, reuse, and extensibility are valued in this program, leading to work that can scale to enhance scholarly research, teaching, and public programming in the humanities. The program also supports scholarship that examines the history, criticism, and philosophy of digital culture or technology and its impact on society. In support of its efforts to advance digital infrastructures and initiatives in libraries and archives, and subject to the availability of funds and IMLS discretion, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) anticipates providing funding through this program. These funds may support some DHAG projects that further the IMLS mission to advance, support, and empower America’s museums, libraries, and related organizations. IMLS funding will encourage innovative collaborations between library and archives professionals, humanities professionals, and relevant public communities that advance preservation of, access to, and public engagement with digital collections and services to empower community learning, foster civic cohesion, and strengthen knowledge networks. NEH Digital Projects for the Public

Description: Program supports projects that interpret and analyze humanities content in primarily digital platforms and formats, such as websites, mobile applications and tours, interactive touch screens and kiosks, games, and virtual environments. All Digital Projects for the Public project should present analysis that deepens public understanding of significant humanities ideas; incorporate sound humanities scholarship; involve humanities scholars in all phases of development and production; include appropriate digital media professionals; reach a broad public through a realistic plan for development, marketing, and distribution; create appealing digital formats for the general public; and demonstrate the capacity to sustain themselves. All projects should demonstrate the potential to attract a broad, general, non-specialist audience, either online or in person at venues such as museums, libraries, or other cultural institutions. Applicants may also choose to identify particular communities and groups, including students, to whom a project may have particular appeal.

Award: Up to $30,000 (discovery grants); $100,000 (prototyping grants); and $400,000 (production grants).
