I-Park Multi-Disciplinary Residency Program

Description: I-Park supports residencies in the following creative disciplines: music composition/sound art, visual arts, moving image/new media, creative writing, architecture, and landscape/garden/ecological design. 2022 residencies are offered from June through October. Each multidisciplinary session consists of 6-7 artists, all of whom arrive and depart at the same time, ensuring a deeply shared experience. The residence is self-directed; I-Park welcomes ambitious installation projects on the I-Park grounds, and there is a small budget for materials, equipment, and labor for approved projects. Award: 4-week residency; residents are provided with a private bedroom, private studio, and chef-prepared dinners five nights a week.

Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants

Description: Program will award small, early-stage grants to promote growth of new connections between scholars, practitioners, educators, and/or communicators working to understand, communicate, and mitigate the impacts of climate change on human health. Topics of interest include linking basic/early biomedical science to climate-focused thinking; sustainability in healthcare systems, healthcare delivery outside institutions, and biomedical research; health impacts and health systems impacts of extreme weather events and other crises; and outreach, communication, and education around climate and human health. The fund is interested in activities that build connections between basic/early biomedical scientific approaches and ecological, environmental, geological, geographic, and planetary-scale thinking, and population-focused fields including epidemiology and public health demography, economics, and urban planning. Also of interest is work to launch new approaches or interactions toward reducing the impact of health-centered activities, for example, developing more sustainable systems for health care, care delivery, and biomedical research systems. Another area of interest is preparing for the impacts of extreme weather and other crises that can drive large scale disruptions that will immediately impact human health and delivery of health care. Public outreach, climate communication, and education efforts focused on the intersection of climate and health are also appropriate for this call.

Award: $2500-$50,000

Eligibility: Applications must be submitted by nonprofit organizations or degree granting institutions in the United States or Canada. Applicant organizations may submit multiple proposals, but an individual may only serve as a principal investigator/project director on one application during each review period.

Deadline: Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis through August 30, 2023.

LACMA Art + Technology Grant Program

Description: The Art + Technology Lab supports projects that explore artistic applications of emerging technologies and ideas related to technology and culture. The program offers artists and artist collectives financial and in-kind support for new projects, with the help of expert partners from the fields of science, technology, and engineering. While there is a preference for projects that explore emerging technology, prior technological experience or knowledge is not required. Artists who have not used advanced technology in their practice are encouraged to consider how technology applications might build upon and expand the trajectory of their work. Recipients need not be located in or near Los Angeles. The Lab welcomes proposals for projects that are presented outside of the bounds of the museum campus, including conceptual projects and projects that unfold in virtual, online, extraterrestrial locations. Award: Grants may provide financial support of up to $50,000 per project to cover artist fees and direct costs, including materials. Recipients may also receive in-kind support, such as mentorship, coaching, advice, and exposure to technologies in development at partner organizations, including Hyundai, Snap Inc., YouTube Learning, and SpaceX as well as independent artists and academics working in art and technology from the MIT Media Lab Space Exploration Initiative, and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Eligibility: Open to individuals and collectives located anywhere in the world.

The Tyson Scholars of American Art Program

Description: The Tyson Scholars of American Art Program encourages and supports full-time interdisciplinary scholarship that seeks to expand boundaries and traditional categories of investigation into American art and visual and material culture from the colonial period to the present. Scholars may be focused on architecture, craft, material culture, performance art, and new media. They welcome applications from scholars approaching US art transregionally and looking at the broader geographical context of the Americas, especially including Latinx and Indigenous art. Applications will be evaluated on the originality and quality of the proposed research project and its contribution to a more equitable and inclusive history of American art. Award: Fellowships are residential and support full-time writing and research for terms that range from six weeks to nine months. Tyson Scholars have access to the art and library collections of Crystal Bridges as well as the library and archives at the University of Arkansas. Stipends vary depending on the duration of residency, position as senior scholar, post-doctoral scholar or pre-doctoral scholar, and range from $17,000 to $34,000 per semester, plus provided housing. The residency includes $1,500 for relocation, and additional research funds upon application. Scholars are provided workspace in the curatorial wing of the Crystal Bridges Library.

Eligibility: PhD candidates (or equivalent), post-doctoral researchers, and senior scholars from any field who are researching American art are invited to apply.

Currier Museum Artist-in-Residence

Description: The Currier Museum of Art invites applications for the second annual open call for its Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program, awarding up to two residencies between fall 2022 and spring 2023. This program will provide support for selected self-identified emerging artists or artist groups (of up to three people) focused on social practice. Due to the flexible nature of this program, these residencies can be for a period of 6-12 weeks between mid-October 2022 and mid-March 2023. The AIR program is central to the Currier Museum’s mission of connecting audiences with art and creative thinking. This program deepens the mission through an open call to social practice artists who share the goal of impacting people through the transformative power of art. Applicants must demonstrate a history of social engagement in their artmaking practice and production. Successful applicants will develop an innovative project with tangible outcomes that align with the tenets of their own practice, the mission of the museum, and the needs of the community partner(s) with whom they will collaborate.

Award: Resident artists receive a stipend of $1,000 per week, travel allowance up to $500, materials support, and housing in a fully furnished home. In many cases, resident artists may be able to have spouses/children accompany them. Service animals are welcome.

Eligibility: Individual artists or collectives of up to three people are eligible to apply. Artists and collectives working in any media are eligible. Artists must be able to commit at least six continuous weeks in residence during mid-Oct. 2022 to mid-March 2021. Selected artist must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Loeb & Loeb/ArtLab Fellowship

Description Loeb Fellows are accomplished practitioners, influential in shaping the built and natural environment, whose work is advancing positive social outcomes in the US and around the world. In the middle of promising careers they step away from their hectic professional lives for one academic year. Fellows audit classes at the GSD and throughout the vast network of Harvard and MIT. They engage with faculty and students, participate in Fellowship events, and collaborate with their peers. They become part of a powerful growing network of colleagues passionately committed to revitalizing communities. The Loeb/ArtLab Fellowship is open to any artist or person with an artistic practice who applies for a Loeb Fellowship and meets the requirements thereof. The intention of a joint Loeb / ArtLab Fellowship is to give practicing artists the same Fellowship experience they would have as Loeb Fellows, with the added benefit of being granted studio space in the ArtLab building, research support and networking resources through the ArtLab community, as well as potential funding for proposed programs and/or projects over the course of the year.

Award: Academic-year fellowship; stipend; housing in Cambridge; and tuition-free auditing of classes at Harvard & MIT.

Eligibility: Mid-career professionals with 5-10 years of experience (minimum). The Fellowship is for practitioners. It is not a sabbatical program or an artist residency.

SOM Research Prize

Description: SOM Foundation introduced the Research Prize to cultivate new ideas and meaningful research that addresses the critical issues of our time. Two $40,000 prizes will be awarded to faculty-led interdisciplinary teams based in the United States to conduct original research that contributes to the SOM Foundation’s current topic: Envisioning Responsible Relationships with Materiality. This year’s topic seeks to explore materiality from the micro- to the macroscale, bringing together designers and researchers from multiple disciplines in order to envision sustainable, responsible, and ethical relationships with materials and the communities that they come from. Award: $40,000

Eligibility: Open to faculty currently teaching at a professionally accredited bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD program in architecture, landscape architecture, or urban design in the United States. The research must be developed in an academic studio or other research structure within the academic institution. The lead faculty member(s) will be expected to work in a collaborative manner with faculty from other disciplines, leading professionals, nonprofit organizations, and/or community representatives in addition to students enrolled in the studio. Collaborator(s) can be based worldwide. SOM Foundation affiliated members and SOM employees should not be included as part of the proposals. Faculty from previously awarded proposals are not eligible.

Rome Prize

Description: For over a century, the American Academy in Rome has awarded the Rome Prize to support innovative and cross-disciplinary work in the arts and humanities. Each year, the prize is awarded to about thirty artists and scholars who represent the highest standard of excellence and who are in the early or middle stages of their careers. Fellowships are awarded in the following disciplines: ancient studies, architecture, design, historic preservation & conservation, landscape architecture, literature, medieval studies, modern Italian studies, musical composition, Renaissance and early modern studies, and visual arts.

Award: Each Rome Prize winner is provided with a stipend, meals, a bedroom with private bath, and a private workspace. Those with children under 18 live in partially subsidized apartments nearby. Winners of half- and full-term fellowships receive stipends of $16,000 and $28,000 respectively.

Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. citizens; previous winners are not eligible to reapply. Rome Prize winners may not hold a full-time job during the fellowship term. See website for more info.

Grants will be awarded in support of projects designed to enhance students’ understanding of science and technology and inspire them to think differently about energy. Projects should reach at least 100 students and align with the Constellation Energy to Educate Innovation Themes: Equity in Energy, Sustainability as a Lifestyle, and a Sustainable World. Hodder Fellowship

Description: The Hodder Fellowship will be given to artists and writers of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the academic year. Potential Hodder Fellows are composers, choreographers, performance artists, visual artists, writers, translators, or other kinds of artists or humanists who have “much more than ordinary intellectual and literary gifts”; they are selected more “for promise than for performance.” Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published a first book or have similar achievements in their own fields; the Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with the “studious leisure” to undertake significant new work.

Award: 10-month appointment and $86,000 stipend to pursue independent projects at Princeton during the academic year; fellows also receive $5,000 for research expenses and $2,000 for classroom expenses.

Eligibility: Artists whose achievements have been recognized as demonstrating extraordinary promise in any area of artistic practice and teaching are welcome to apply. Fellowships are not intended to fund work leading to a PhD or an advanced degree. Holders of a PhD degree from Princeton University are ineligible. Applicants need not be U.S. citizens to apply.
