ACT on Health Equity Community Solutions Challenge

Description: The ACT on Health Equity Community Solutions Challenge is designed to support non-profit organizations positively impacting the health of underserved populations through regional and local community-based programming. Applications will be accepted in two categories: 1) community health and wellbeing [community-based programs to improve conditions that affect health and well-being (e.g., housing, education, environmental/neighborhood safety, nutrition, access to care) and programs that prioritize the social, cultural, and linguistic needs of underserved patients, caregivers and families]; and 2) youth STEM education and career readiness (programs to build knowledge and skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math among K-12 or undergraduate students.

Award: Up to $25,000 over a one-year period.

Eligibility: Open to all eligible 501(c)(3) organizations in the U.S. delivering regional and local community-based programming, including local chapters of national organizations.

Franconia Fellowship Artist Residency

Description: The Franconia Fellowship supports mid-career artists with a stipend and residency. In celebration of the launch of Franconia Sculpture Park’s 4Ground: Midwest Land Art Biennial, Franconia is focusing 2022 curatorial initiatives and public programs on site-specific work that raises awareness of important land and water issues while celebrating the art and landscapes of the rural Midwest. In response to the Eurocentric art historical notion of land art rooted in man moving and controlling the earth, Franconia will be supporting work created with a feminist, indigenous perspective, drawing on the more than 10,000-year history of land art created by native peoples in the Upper Midwest. Franconia Sculpture Park is encouraging applicants with an interest in work rooted in the intersection of art and ecology, including but not limited to: performance; sound art; public interventions; site-specific and ephemeral installation; the rural and natural landscape; earthworks; collaborative works with nature; indigenous history and storytelling; and land and water rights.  

Award: $5,000 stipend and a three-week to three-month residency during which Fellows are responsible for developing, producing, and installing their work.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 21+ years of age, showing a strong professional working history. Small collaborative groups of two may apply with one designated lead. Int’l artists may apply.

Franconia Writers Residency

Description: Three to four accomplished writers will join the Writers Residency program at Franconia Sculpture Park in 2022. Writers span a range of arts-focused disciplines and will receive a stipend, full room & board, and a two to a three-week residency at the 50-acre outdoor sculpture park. The writers-in-residence in this program will immerse themselves in the new environment and embrace the time and space to move forward in their work. 

Award: $1,000 stipend and room & board for a 2-3 week residency.

Eligibility: Applicants must be 21+ years of age, showing a strong professional working history. Curators, poets, songwriters, playwrights, writers (fiction or nonfiction), artists centered on contemporary cultural arts and theory, academics on sabbatical, etc. are considered.

Community Process Makers Program

Description: Program was launched in 2015 to provide unrestricted grant support to community change agents working to catalyze economic opportunities for underserved communities across the United States. In 2021, the foundation committed an additional $25 million in a third iteration of the program in support of local community organizations that are advancing racial equity by breaking down silos and connecting Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) to greater social and economic opportunity across the United States. Priority will be given to organizations that support the BIPOC community through the following focus areas: affordable housing and access, environmental sustainability, economic development, financial health and wellness, social justice, workforce readiness, and family-sustaining employment. The Citi Foundation will host two live sessions on June 23 and 30 at 2 pm ET to answer questions. Register here

Award: Unrestricted grant support of $500,000 over two years as well as have access to technical assistance from national experts and an opportunity to participate in a learning community with fellow program participants

Eligibility: Applicants must be tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, have a federal employer identification number, and be located and working in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area, or Washington, D.C.

Luce Indigenous Knowledge Fellowship

Description: First Nations will award fellowships of $75,000 each to 10 outstanding Native knowledge holders and knowledge makers engaged in meaningful work that benefits Indigenous people and communities in either reservation and/or urban settings. The fellowship is a two-year, self-directed enrichment program designed to support the process of growth, development, knowledge and networks of Native leaders and thinkers. This unique and exciting new fellowship will seek to support individuals from diverse fields and engaged in different modes of expression. The fellowship is open to both emerging and experienced leaders and thinkers from a wide variety of fields, including but not limited to agriculture, food systems, youth leadership development, natural resource management, climate change, economic development, journalism, language and cultural revitalization, traditional and contemporary arts and more. 

Award: Two-year fellowship; $75,000

Eligibility: The fellowship is open to emerging and experienced Native knowledge holders and knowledge makers actively engaged in meaningful, positive work that benefits Indigenous people and communities in either reservation and/or urban settings. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, U.S. citizens/permanent residents, and tribally-affiliated with a Native American, Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian community. Radcliffe Institute Fellowship

Description: Radcliffe fellows are exceptional scientists, writers, scholars, public intellectuals, practitioners, and artists whose work is making a difference in their professional fields and in the larger world. A fellowship at Radcliffe is an opportunity to step away from usual routines and dive deeply into a project. Radcliffe supports engaged scholarship and welcomes applications from scholars, artists, and practitioners proposing innovative work that confronts pressing social and policy issues and seeking to engage audiences beyond academia. Proposals relevant to the Institute’s focus areas are welcome, including: law, education, and justice; youth leadership and civic engagement; legacies of slavery; and women, gender, and society. Prospective applicants are invited to join a Zoom session (4 pm ET, June 30) that will provide information on what makes a strong application to the Radcliffe Fellowship Program. 

Award: Fellowship runs from Sept. 2022 to May 2023. Fellows receive $78,000 stipend and $5,000 to cover project expenses. Fellows may also be eligible to receive relocation, housing, and childcare funds. Health care support is made available as needed.

Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program

Description: Program furthers the goals of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) and provides environmental services and cost-effective solutions to the needs of urban communities and local agencies. Benefits of the projects include reduced greenhouse gas emissions, increased water supply, clean air and water, reduced energy use, flood and storm water management, recreation, urban revitalization, improved public health, and producing useful products such as biofuel, clean energy, and job creation. These grants are designed to assist communities to create or implement multi-benefit projects with a focus on environmental, economic and social benefits to urban communities with an emphasis on disadvantaged and low-income communities. Project types include Urban Forest Expansion and Improvement; Urban Forest Management Activities; and Urban Forestry Education and Workforce Development. See grant guidelines for full details. Award: $150,000 – $1,500,000

Eligibility: Applying organization must be one of the following: a city, a county, a qualifying district or a non-profit organization as classified under Section 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All projects shall be designed to further the goals of the California Urban Forestry Act of 1978. Project area must be in an urban area or immediately adjacent to an urban area. Projects must show that they have authentically engaged the local community to develop the project. All grant types require a cost share rate of 75/25. Community-Based Archive Grants

Description: Program provides direct support to community-based archives that represent and serve communities marginalized due to oppression based on race, ethnicity, national origin, class, gender, sexuality, religion, or ability. For the purposes of this call, community-based archives are defined as collections of materials gathered, collected, and shared primarily by members of a marginalized community to document their collective histories. This year, the Foundation plans to prioritize those applications that are based in community advocacy and archive activation efforts.

Award: $50,000-100,000 grant 

Eligibility: Open to U.S.-based organizations with tax-exempt status as a 501(c) (3) public charity and an established and actively collecting archive (in operation for two or more years) with an annual operating budget between $50,000 and $750,000. New Earth Foundation Grant

Description: New Earth Foundation seeks to fund innovative projects that enhance life on our planet and brighten the future, furthering peace. Smaller, newer 501(c)(3) organizations are the focus of grants given, so that the foundation’s gift can make a more significant contribution to the work of the recipient organization. NEF grants support a wide variety of projects in many fields of endeavor, including but not limited to environmental initiatives that are working to help eliminate pollution and to save the planet’s ecosystems, community efforts that create models of social sustainability, educational innovations that prepare youth to become the socially responsible leaders of the future, and strategies that offer economic improvement and opportunities. NEF particularly appreciates projects that are replicable so that excellent ideas and work can multiply and benefit many.
