2022 USC Lusk Center for Real Estate Research Stipends

Description: The USC Lusk Center for Real Estate is pleased to announce the availability of research stipends to become available in July 2022. The stipends will facilitate high-quality research that will eventually get published in the leading scientific journals. The broad topics should be related to real estate and urban issues. The Lusk Center is especially interested in proposals that focus on housing and real estate finance, non-residential real estate, urban entrepreneurship, transportation and land use, urban poverty and segregation, neighborhood change, and local taxes and housing regulation. Studies can focus on the U.S. or any other country.

Award: Up to $25,000 for faculty members and $15,000 for postdocs or Ph.D. students. Funds can cover faculty compensation or expenses for data acquisition, research assistance, travel, etc.

Eligibility: Faculty members, postdoctoral researchers, and Ph.D. students at USC are eligible to apply.

2022 Pocantico Fellowship

Description: The Pocantico Center Preservation Fellowship is a two-week residential fellowship in historic preservation that provides the opportunity to reside and work in the historic Marcel Breuer House located at The Pocantico Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in Tarrytown, NY from June 21 through July 3, 2022. The fellowship is structured to provide professionals with two weeks of dedicated time for a defined project with significant benefit to the preservation field, such as work on a book, long article, or key speech/presentation on the future of preservation, and concerning matters of importance including social justice, diversity and inclusion, housing, equitable development, climate action, re-imagining historic sites, preservation trades and workforce development, telling a fuller history, or another topic of key importance to the preservation field today. 

Award: Lodging; $125/week for food; and domestic transportation to and from NYC will be covered.

Eligibility: Applications accepted from professionals in preservation or related fields.

Harpo Grants for Visual Artists

Description: The Grants for Visual Artists award provides direct support of under-recognized artists. Grants are made to support the development of artists’ work, and a grantee may use their award to support any activity toward that purpose. Applications are evaluated on the basis of the quality of the artist’s work, the potential to expand aesthetic inquiry, and the ability to fulfiull the foundation’s priority to provide support to visual artists who are under-recognized by the field. 

Award: Up to $10,000

Eligibility: Open to self-defined under-recognized visual artists over 21 who are U.S. citizens and have not previously received a director artist grant from Harpo. Students who (as of the deadline) are currently enrolled in an art-related degree program, have been enrolled in an art-related degree program within the last twelve months, or are planning to attend an art-related degree program in the coming year are not eligible.

Bogliasco Foundation Fellowships

Description: The Bogliasco Foundation supports the arts and humanities by providing residential Fellowships at its study center in Italy’s most vibrant, historic crossroads, where gifted artists and scholars of all cultures come together to connect, create and disseminate significant new work. Applicants may also apply for Special Fellowships, such as the Virginia Howard Fellowship or the Van Cleef & Arpels Fellowship in Landscape Architecture, which include additional support.

Award: 32- or 33-day fellowship includes room and board and a separate workspace but does not cover travel costs.

Eligibility: The Bogliasco Foundation accepts applications from those doing both creative and scholarly work in the following fields: Archaeology, Architecture, Classics, Dance, Film/Video, History, Landscape Architecture, Literature, Music, Philosophy, Theater, and Visual Arts – without regard to nationality, age, race, or gender. Applicants should demonstrate significant achievement in their disciplines, commensurate with their age and experience. Students who are enrolled in a degree-granting program at the time of the application are not eligible. Fellows must be able to speak English.

Kubota Hometown Proud Grant Program

Description: The Kubota Tractor Corporation has announced the launch of its second annual Hometown Proud grant program. This year, in honor of its 50th anniversary in the United States, Kubota will award five grants of $100,000 each to revitalize or refresh community spaces. Also new this year, each of the five grant winners will have a chance at an additional $100,000 Kubota Community Choice Award selected by public vote this summer. Each project application can be as diverse and imaginative as the community itself; examples include cultivating a community garden, creating a new playground area, beautifying a community park, adding landscaping to a town square or open space, or modernizing a fairground or rodeo arena. Applications will be judged based on criteria including how they demonstrate community need for the revitalization project, how the community will benefit long-term from the completion of the project, and how Kubota equipment might be used to complete the renovation project. 

Award: $100,000 with the potential of an additional $100,000 Kubota Community Choice Award

Eligibility: Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or a city, town, or other municipality

Wild Futures – 2023 Creative Capital Grants

Description: The theme for Creative Capital’s 2023/2024 grant cycle is “Wild Futures: Art, Culture, Impact.” Artists are invited to propose experimental, risk-taking projects which push boundaries formally and thematically, and/or venture into wild, never-before-seen concepts and future universes real or imagined. Ultimately, Creative Capital seeks proposals for groundbreaking new work–including but not limited to work that attends to the many relationships between social, economic, and environmental justice, and advances the global dialogue around critical issues impacting the sustainability of artists, our communities, our planet, and beyond. For 2023, 50 awards will be granted in the performing arts, technology, and literature. For 2024, 50 awards will be granted in the visual arts (including architecture and design) and moving image/film. See website for more info.

Award: Up to $50,000 and advisory services

Eligibility: Applicants must be working artists with at least 5 years of professional artistic practice; a U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or O-1 visa holder; and at least 25 years old. Applicants may not be enrolled in a degree granting program; may not apply to the Warhol Foundation Arts Writers grant program in the same year; may not be a previous recipient of a Creative Capital Award; and may not be an applicant or collaborator on more than one proposed project per year. 

Deadline: For 2023 cycle, LOI due by 4 pm ET, April 1, 2022

USC R&D Priorities Award: Sustainability

Description: The USC R&D Priorities Award provides seed funding for interdisciplinary collaborative research activities involving groups of faculty from multiple schools who are preparing a proposal for an externally funded grant in areas of R&D priorities outlined by the federal government’s Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Science and Technology Policy. Within the topics targeted by the federal government for FY23 funding, eligible topics for this RFP include: Energy Transition (research to develop clean power technologies harnessing clean energy solutions to achieve universal access to energy that is sustainable and affordable) and Blue Technology (research to develop technology that promotes a sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth in areas such as, but not limited to aquaculture, biodiversity, coastal protection, renewable energy output, cultural values, and tourism, while preserving the health of marine and coastal ecosystem). Award: Up to $75,000 for one year

Eligibility: Applicants must be permanent, FT faculty at USC. TT and NTT faculty are eligible; visiting and adjunct faculty are not eligible. Proposals must designate a team that includes on PI and at least one co-PI. At least two separate USC schools must be represented between the primary appointments of the PI and co-PI. Faculty teams should include at least one assistant professor. Applications must identify and plan to apply to a specific externally-funded grant within the areas of research interest outlined above. Humanities Initiatives at Colleges & Universities

Description: Humanities Initiatives at Colleges and Universities strengthen the teaching and study of the humanities at institutions of higher education by developing new humanities programs, resources (including those in digital format), or courses, or by enhancing existing ones. Projects must be organized around a core topic or set of themes drawn from such areas of study in the humanities as history, philosophy, religion, literature, and composition and writing skills. NEH welcomes applications for projects that are modest in scope, duration, and budget, as well as applications for expansive, long-term projects.

Award: Up to $150,000

Stacy Lloyd III Fellowship for Bibliographic Study

Description: Awarded to one outstanding early-career scholar working in some area related to the history, art, and culture of plants, gardens and landscapes. The fellowship will be granted to an exceptional researcher who is developing a new body of research that would especially benefit from access to Oak Spring’s library. The award recipient will spend 2-8 weeks at Oak Spring where they will be able to meet with staff; explore the 700-acre landscape, the foundation’s efforts in sustainable land management, and the rare book library that holds over 19,000 objects including many examples of botanical art. Fellow will have time and space to work independently on their own projects during stay. The only requirement will be to give one 45-minute presentation with time for questions to Oak Spring Staff and any other fellows or residents on site.

Award: $10,000 grant and two-to-eight-week stay at Oak Spring

Eligibility: Eligible applicants must be early-career researchers completing a terminal degree, or who have completed a terminal degree within the past five years. The selected early-career researcher must be self-directed and able to work independently while on site. Applicants are expected to show exceptional promise with an ability to state how use of Oak Spring’s library will contribute to their research objectives, exceptional promise, good communication skills and excellence in what they have accomplished or plan to accomplish.
